A subject-matter expert is a person who is an authority in a particular area or topic. The RFID Professional Institute relies on SMEs to submit and edit questions that are used in our certification exams. Being an RFID Professional Institute SME is highly prestigious and conveys the status of RFID expert.
We continually seek experts to contribute to current exams, which will be updated regularly, as well as new exams. SMEs are appointed in accordance with the policies established by the RFID Professional Institute's Board of Directors (see the criteria). SMEs do not receive any compensation for their participation, and their contribution becomes the intellectual property of the Institute.
SMEs active in the RFID Professional Institute will have their annual membership fee discounted to US$99, recognizing their contributions to the Institute. Recognition for SMEs will include being listed on the RFID Professional Institute's website, pending full participation in the program. The names of active SMEs will be published on the Institute's website and they will be given a special logo that they can put on their curriculum vitae (résumé) and email signature.
To apply to be an RFID Professional Institute SME, please complete and submit the SME Application Form.
If you are approved, you will need to sign a non-disclosure and intellectual property agreement as set out in our Subject Matter Expert Agreement. This document states that you will not share questions or other confidential Institute information with anyone outside the organisation, and helps to ensure the integrity of the exam. The agreement also assigns ownership of all questions submitted or edited by an SME to the Institute.
If you have any questions or comments, please use our contact form to reach us.
Thank you for your interest in becoming a subject-matter expert and contributing to the RFID Professional Institute.
SMEs are the lifeblood of any certification body.
Without their knowledge, expertise and contribution it would not be possible to scope out what subject areas to include in the certification or to construct the question banks from which examination questions are selected.
The Institute relies heavily upon seasoned knowledgeable industry experts to perform the SME role and always needs more SME's to ensure that our certifications cover the appropriate scope, are current and relevant to the RFID community.
You can see the qualifications required on our Qualifications Guidelines page.
And you can apply to become a SME on our Apply to be a SME page.
